I am not too sure of how many people feel. A few thought he bloomed late, because they only saw the best of him recently. Unfortunately, unlike AB, he wasn't regarded as a uniquely talented player, so he wasn't given the space to showcase his skills.
Reminds me of the criticism Kevin Pietersen used to get for England. Everyone loved it when he scored fast hundreds, but turned on him when he was out playing aggressive shots (they used to say he was ‘irresponsible’). You can’t have it both ways.

It's quite baffling. If the six goes over, he is called a genius, if it doesn't, he doesn't take his role seriously.
